Fragile Permanence is created from the stainless-steel sheet that covered my workbench for around ten years. During that time it became marked, warped and scarred through the making of countless sculptures, accumulating traces of hammering, welding, grinding and heat.

Rather than discarding it, I chose to treat the sheet as a record of time and process, transforming it into a new work using stainless steel, bronze, copper and brass.

The piece explores erosion, memory and the tension between permanence and change. Stainless steel is usually associated with strength and durability, yet here its surface reveals a history of gradual transformation. The work considers how materials, places and people are continually altered by experience, and how those accumulated marks can become part of their identity.
